GI Earth Rods with Clamp – Reliable Grounding, Ready to Install

A safe electrical installation starts below ground. Every panel, motor, transformer, solar array and lightning protection system needs a low-resistance path that carries fault current safely into the earth. GI Earth Rods with Clamp from SG Power Products Pvt. Ltd. give you that path in a single, ready-to-install unit: a galvanized iron earthing rod supplied with a factory-fitted connection clamp. This means less site work, fewer loose joints, and dependable protection for years.

As one of India's leading GI Earth Rods with clamp manufacturers and suppliers, SG Power designs, makes and supplies earthing rods for residential, commercial, industrial, railway, metro, DISCOM and renewable energy projects across the country.

What Is a GI Earth Rod with Clamp?

A GI earth rod is a solid steel rod coated with zinc through galvanization. The steel core provides mechanical strength, so the rod can be driven into the soil, while the zinc layer protects it against rust and corrosion underground. The clamp is the connection point at the top of the rod. It is where the earthing conductor (GI strip, copper strip or cable) is attached.

In many low-cost rods, the clamp is a separate loose part that is fitted on site, often poorly. SG Power's GI Earth Rods with Clamp come with the terminal already in place. Our standard model uses a T-Type Welded Terminal, which is welded directly to the rod. This removes the risk of a loose bolted joint between rod and clamp, which is one of the most common causes of rising earth resistance over time.

If your conductor is bolted to a flat plate instead, see the GI earth rods with palm, or compare both terminal styles on the GI Earth Rods page.

Key Features and Benefits

E250 steel core for strength. The E250 grade steel core gives the rod the rigidity it needs to be driven into hard, stony or compacted soil without bending.

Galvanized for corrosion resistance. The zinc coating protects the steel from moisture, salts and soil chemicals. This extends service life and keeps conductivity stable.

Welded clamp, secure connection. The T-Type welded terminal creates a permanent, low-resistance bond between the rod and the clamp. There are no loose threads to corrode or vibrate free.

IS 3043 compliant. Our rods are made to IS 3043, the Indian code of practice for earthing, making them suitable for projects that need standards-based documentation and inspection approval.

Ready to install. Because the clamp is part of the rod, installers save time on site, with no hunting for matching accessories.

Cost-effective. GI earth rods cost less than copper-bonded rods while still giving reliable performance in most soil conditions, making them a practical choice for large or budget-sensitive projects.

Applications

GI Earth Rods with Clamp are used wherever a dependable earth connection is needed, including:

Residential buildings, apartments and housing societies

Commercial complexes, offices, malls and hospitals

Industrial plants, factories and warehouses

Electrical panels, DG sets, motors and transformers

Solar power plants and rooftop solar systems

Telecom towers and data centres

Railway, metro and DISCOM infrastructure

Lightning protection systems and surge protection devices

How to Choose the Right GI Earth Rod with Clamp

Rod diameter: A larger diameter adds mechanical strength and surface contact with the soil. A 14 mm rod suits most standard installations; heavier-duty sites may need a larger section.

Rod length: Longer rods reach deeper, more moist soil layers, where resistance is usually lower. In rocky ground, shorter rods connected in parallel may be easier to install.

Clamp type: Pick the clamp that suits your earthing conductor. A welded T-type terminal is ideal for strip connections and gives the most permanent joint.

Soil condition: In dry, sandy or rocky soil, pair the rod with an earth enhancing backfill compound to lower and stabilise resistance.

Project standards: For government, railway or utility projects, confirm that the rod meets IS 3043 and request test documents from the supplier.

In dry, sandy or rocky soil, pair the rod with our earth enhancing compound. If you are unsure, our engineers can recommend the right configuration based on your soil type, fault level and target resistance.

Installation Overview

1

Pick a location away from building foundations and underground services, ideally where soil holds some moisture.

2

Drive or place the rod vertically into the ground. Use backfill compound around it in high-resistivity soil.

3

Connect the earthing conductor to the clamp and tighten all fasteners firmly.

4

Fit an earth pit cover to protect the connection and allow inspection.

5

Test earth resistance with an earth tester and record the value. Add rods if needed to reach your target.

Check the earth pit at regular intervals, especially before and after the monsoon, to make sure the connection stays clean and tight. An earth pit cover keeps the joint protected and accessible for inspection.
